2011-2012 IELTS Research Grants
This year, educational institutions and suitably qualified individuals are invited to apply for
funding to undertake applied research projects in relation to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Financial support for
individual projects selected will in principle be limited to a maximum of £22,000/AU$36,000.
The closing date for applications is 30 June 2011.
Past research has been submitted from researchers in many regions of the world including the
UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India and Cambodia. Given that over 1.5 million
IELTS are taken in over 130 countries all over the word each year we are keen to extend this
call for proposals as wide as possible. Applications can be submitted to either IDP:IELTS
Australia or British Council - as detailed at
http://www.ielts.org/researchers/grants_and_awards/call_for_research_proposal.aspx.
IELTS Research Reports
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is jointly owned by British
Council, IDP:IELTS Australia and University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations.
Every year, both IDP:IELTS Australia and British Council issue a joint call for research
proposals that reflect current concerns and issues relating to the IELTS test in the international
context. Such research makes an important contribution to the monitoring and test
development process for IELTS; it also helps IELTS stakeholders (e.g. English language
professionals and teachers) to develop a greater understanding of the test.
The Research Grants have been in place since 1995 and to date, there are 10 volumes of
research available in print format. The abstracts are already available online and we are about
to publish the entire full text of the back files online so that this research becomes more
widely available for citation. You can see a list of volumes, articles and contributors here:
